How this dasha timeline works

Vimshottari assigns a repeating 120-year sequence of planetary periods. The Moon's birth Nakshatra sets the first lord; its progress through that Nakshatra determines the balance remaining at birth. The timeline shows complete periods around the selected date, including periods that can begin before birth.

What is the difference between Mahadasha and Antardasha?

Mahadasha is the major period. Antardasha is a subdivision within it. This view shows the major period at the reference date and all nine subdivisions within that major period.

Which dates and year length are used?

Dates are displayed in UTC. The selected date is evaluated at noon UTC, and the calculation uses 365.2425 days per year. Boundary times within a day and different year-length conventions can explain differences between tools.

Does a dasha predict an event?

The calculator provides traditional timing periods. A period alone does not establish a specific life event; interpretation requires the wider chart and should not be treated as a guarantee.

Calculations use Swiss Ephemeris, Lahiri ayanamsa, and mean lunar nodes. Astrological interpretations are traditional symbolism, not scientific predictions. Read our guide to interpreting a placement.
